Gary O’Neil says why he’s ‘disappointed’ with himself after seeing Wolves draw 2-2 with Brighton

Wolves manager Gary O’Neil saw his side complete a late comeback against Brighton today but he was still left frustrated with proceedings as well.

The Molineux side battled back from two down to rescue the game in the dying minutes and give themselves a valuable point on the road.

Wolves, though, are still yet to win a game this season and along with three other Premier League teams, are in dire need of that first win.

For Wolves fans, the result will feel like a big positive, especially after Mario Lemina admitted that the lack of wins was playing on the squad’s minds.

However, for O’Neil himself, there was a feeling of disappointment as he appeared to blame himself.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, O’Neil still cut a disappointed figure as he admitted he got his tactics wrong against the Seagulls.

“I’m a little bit disappointed with myself really that I started with a five [at the back]. I know we did well with a five against Manchester City and the lads deserved another go at it,” O’Neil said.

“But I didn’t think a five would fit very well against Brighton today but at least we were quick enough to change it at half-time.

“At 85 minutes when Brighton scored their second goal I thought I was going to be stood here answering some more tough questions.

“The players have given an awful lot and if they keep doing that it cannot continue to go against you.”

O’Neil is treading on thin ice at Wolves

While O’Neil has credit in the bank at Wolves and is liked by the board and fans, football is a results business and at the moment, results are poor.

Yes, a draw at Brighton can be seen as a positive and it’s something to build on.

But going into next week, Wolves simply have to get a win on the board of we’ll be almost a third through the season without them winning a game.

We saw last season how the likes of Sheffield United and Burnley struggled to get wins and they were down by the new year.

Wolves, then, need to pick up points quickly or face a similar fate.
