‘I am sure’… Exciting Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds Wrexham transfer prediction made

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have backed Wrexham heavily in the transfer market over the last few years.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought the Red Dragons in 2021 and have taken them up to League One in the space of a few seasons.

Now playing in the third tier following a 15-year stint in the National League, it was imperative Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson was able to improve his squad during the 2024 summer transfer window.

And the Hollywood owners were not shy about splashing the cash, allowing the club to break their transfer record on two occasions.

Wrexham broke their transfer record to sign Ollie Rathbone from Rotherham United, paying their League One rivals £500,000.

Just a few weeks later, Wrexham paid West Bromwich Albion £590,000 for Modou Faal, which is now their new club-record fee.

Seven more faces arrived at the Racecourse Ground in the most recent window but more additions could come soon.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds Wrexham transfer prediction

The Welsh outfit lost midfielder George Evans to injury recently and he is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

With George Dobson and Andy Cannon walking a tightrope ahead of Charlton Athletic as well, the club are now set to bolster their midfield ranks.

Matty James is rumoured to be joining Wrexham as a free agent and is expected to pen terms until the January transfer window.

Now, speaking to FLW, former player turned EFL pundit Carlton Palmer has shared his thoughts on the Ryan Barnett transfer rumors and predicted McElhenney and Reynolds to ‘go again’ in the January transfer window.

He said: “He’s [Barnett] been outstanding in giving them, in the 3-5-2, width and pushing on. It’s physically so demanding what is being asked of him up and down, but he’s done what’s asked of him and his quality of delivery into the box when he gets there is outstanding.

“That’s why the likes of Championship clubs are looking at him. Listen, Wrexham with back-to-back promotions and will be very, very close to getting promotion again this season.

“I am sure the owners will go again in January, and there is not a cat in hell’s chance that Wrexham will sell a player who is very integral to the way they play and the way they look to set up.

“There’s not a chance they let him go. And, of course, why would you want to leave Wrexham? They are on the up with progressive owners.

“They have money and it’s the place to be, so I don’t think this will be entertained.

“Of course, people are going to be looking at Wrexham’s players, given what they have done in the past few seasons, but that just goes with the territory.”

What positions should Wrexham target in January transfer window

If Wrexham do indeed look to sign more players in January, it is pretty clear where they must strengthen.

With James potentially only signing until January, another midfielder should be brought in to provide cover for Evans.

Elsewhere, with Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher’s injuries depleting their striker ranks, Wrexham should aim to sign another centre-forward.

A young forward who can be a long-term replace for Marriott, who is out of contract next year, should be the priority.

And while not a must, another attack-minded midfielder to interchange with Elliot Lee should be considered.
