The Leeds United players walking a suspension tightrope will need to be careful in the upcoming match with Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road.
Both Joe Rodon and Wilfried Gnonto are currently sat on four bookings and still have another month to go until the cut-off point for an automatic one-match ban.
Junior Firpo sat out Leeds’ 0-0 draw at Bristol City on Saturday for that reason, while Jayden Bogle will be absent this weekend due to picking up his fifth yellow card last time out.
Rodon and Gnonto are two players Leeds can ill afford to lose right now, with the former just one of two senior recognised options at centre-back until Max Wober returns.
With Largie Ramazani picking up an ankle injury last week, Gnonto’s importance has just increased significantly, as Dan James and Manor Solomon work to improve their form and fitness after injuries of their own.
David Webb appointed Leeds vs Plymouth referee
David Webb has been named as the referee for Leeds’ clash with Plymouth this weekend, and is no stranger to dishing out yellow cards in matches involving the Whites.
The 2-1 victory over Preston North End at Elland Road in January was one of four Leeds matches he was on the middle for last season.
In a feisty encounter, Webb ended up dishing out an incredible 10 yellow cards over the course of the match, four of which went to Leeds.
That said, Leeds were on the right end of a stoppage time penalty decision which allowed Joel Piroe the opportunity to win Daniel Farke‘s side the match, which he did.
Webb’s other significant decision involving Leeds last season was when he produced a red card for Asmir Begovic in QPR’s 1-0 loss at Elland Road for a challenge on Patrick Bamford.
Upon appeal, Begovic’s ban was then rescinded, with Bamford also admitting after that game there wasn’t any contact.
What is Leeds’ record with Webb as referee?
As mentioned, Leeds were refereed by Webb four times last season and in good news, didn’t lose on any occasion.
Including the matches against PNE and QPR, Leeds picked up 10 points from a possible 12 available. The 4-0 win at Swansea City, and 2-2 draw at Watford were the other two.
Overall, Leeds’ record reads seven wins, four draws and two defeats in 13 matches, with the last loss coming back in 2020 against Hull City via a penalty shootout in the Carabao Cup.
The first ever Leeds game he officiated came almost 15 years ago in a 1-1 draw against Wycombe Wanderers, the week after the 1-0 win at Manchester United.
