Kalvin Phillips’ career since leaving Leeds in the summer of 2022 hasn’t exactly gone to plan as he secured a huge move to Manchester City.
He’s found form and regular appearances very hard to come by at Manchester City, forced to move out on loan twice in 2024, but still yet to recapture the form that made him England’s best defensive midfielder under Marcelo Bielsa.
Kalvin Phillips said to have eyes on Leeds reunion
A report from Football Insider last week made huge claims on Phillips’ Ipswich Town future, having joined the Tractor Boys on loan at the start of the season.
They shared that club figures at Portman Road are unhappy with the 28-year-old’s physical condition and he could see his loan terminated as a result.
There are also said to be concerns about Phillips being eager to just return to Elland Road to recapture his form.
Kieran McKenna quashes “nonsense” Phillips to Leeds reports
Phillips put himself about in a very impressive way for Ipswich during their chaotic 4-3 loss to Brentford, wrapping a crisp pass through to George Hirst, who assisted Sammie Szmodics for their opener.
The heartbreaking late goal to lose the game against the Bees was enough to leave McKenna in a grim mood, but he particularly wasn’t happy about claims on Phillips’ future.
Post-match, he said this (per the Daily Mail):
Phillips came out on the wrong side of the result on Saturday, but his performance in midfield will have been very encouraging for himself and for McKenna.
He was aggressive in the tackle, composed in possession, and covered ground well, but his back four did not help him in recording a win.
