Joel Piroe was once again one of Leeds United’s most ineffective performers in the 1-0 defeat at Millwall.
Piroe was handed a start in attack for the sixth successive match but failed to get into the game against a packed-out Millwall defence.
Alongside Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James, Piroe was part of a Leeds attack which really struggled to fire despite dominating the vast majority of the ball.
Gnonto and Piroe had two of Leeds’ best chances, while the latter also saw a goal disallowed for offside in the second half.
Unfortunately, just again like at Bristol City, it is yet another away game in which Piroe just hasn’t been able to find any joy in the final third.
Leeds fans react to Piroe display at Millwall
It is a surprise that Daniel Farke has not yet learned Piroe simply doesn’t suit these away matches, considering the vast majority of supporters have.
One supporter described Farke’s decision to keep Piroe on for the full 90 minutes as ‘disgraceful’, stating that Joseph is far better off the ball.
Another said: “I appreciate he did well coming in for the Sunderland game, but Piroe starting just doesn’t work. Let Joseph tear chunks out the CBs then bring Piroe on to stat pad.”
One added: “All the classics today, can’t take corners, 70 minute subs, Piroe missing, just throw attackers on when out of ideas, can’t cross, side to side to side passing, played into their hands, can’t stay in the top 2……dejavu.”
Daniel Farke offers explanation to Leeds defeat
In Piroe’s defence, the service into him from Leeds’ attacking players was really poor for the majority of the night, although he doesn’t help himself.
His movement to get into good areas is so often non-existent, though it was Leeds’ lack of effiency Farke criticised in his post-match press conference.
He said: “Congratulations to Millwall for excellent defending and efficiency. More effective than us with their chances.
“Accept the loss sometimes. Football is efficiency with your chances and no mistakes. They were better than us.”
