According to the news site, with Jesse Marsch gone and loan flop Weston McKennie already saying his “goodbyes,” Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson could also go for the Elland Road exit.
Aaronson, who joined Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg for £25 million last year, is poised to leave, while Leeds wants to keep Adams.
The Athletic, on the other hand, stated that whether or not the USA captain remains in West Yorkshire “will be dictated by the inevitability of interest in him from a higher level than the Championship.”
Adams must stay
Leeds should at the very least make every effort to keep Adams.
While we don’t believe Leeds’ American influx was “accidental” – it was most likely a strategy devised by Andrea Radrizzani and 49ers Enterprises to make the squad more appealing to the American market – Adams’ arrival has been a success.
It was always going to be difficult for Leeds to replace Kalvin Phillips, but Adams, 24, has done a fantastic job of filling the vacuum.
The former RB Leipzig and New York Red Bulls midfielder was an obvious candidate for Leeds’ 2022/23 player of the season.
Unfortunately, the squad only won two of the 14 Premier League games he was absent during this season. They were 14th when word of his season-ending injury came in March. Leeds concluded the season in 19th place and returned to the Championship.
Adams is the type of player who can have a Championship team constructed around him, but don’t kid yourself – he’s too good for this league and someone will want to purchase him at some point.
