Bryan King claims Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario would “be lucky to start for Italy again during the next international break.”
The ex-Spurs scout thought the 27-year-old looked “unsure” as Italy were beaten 3-1 by France at the San Siro in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday (17 November).
Vicario scored an own goal in the 33rd minute as Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne’s free-kick bounced off the crossbar and into the net off the goalkeeper’s back.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks this performance leaves Ange Postecoglou with yet another issue in North London.
“I thought Vicario looked very unsure,” King said.
“That free-kick from Digne, it was a great free-kick. However, I thought Vicario could have at least got a hand on the ball.
“He pushed stuff out, got caught halfway with crosses. He didn’t look confident and he was doing certain things in that game which he has been doing at Tottenham.
“I don’t think Vicario’s performance was reassuring for the Italian defence. I think he will be lucky to start for Italy again during the next international break. It’s also worrying for Postecoglou as well because Fraser Forster doesn’t look like he is up to replacing Vicario.”
Ange Postecoglou to be worried about Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham?
Vicario’s appearance against France was his fourth for his country, and arguably the biggest match he has played in yet during his career.
However, his night did not go at all how he would’ve planned, with the Spurs number one doing very little to suggest that he should also be his nation’s number one ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Therefore, his confidence will be low, which will likely cause an issue for Postecoglou.
Vicario hasn’t had the best of seasons, often being criticised for his performances this term, and this latest setback is unlikely to help.
