Archie Gray links to Leeds United grow as the January transfer window draws closer.
Leeds United know that heading into January, they will at some point need more midfielders as they seek to win promotion to the Premier League. The questionable timelines of their injured midfield duo has also added to the urgency with which the club is looking for reinforcements.
Free agent Josuha Guilavogui joined in the middle of the campaign, but is not up to speed yet. Illia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu both picked up serious knee injuries and none of them are expected to return to first team action before January. Ampadu has started working on grass, but admits he’s quite a few weeks away from a return. Gruev only started walking without crutches recently.
QUIZ: Can you name these past and present Leeds United players?
Leeds United wait on Archie Gray
There has still been no confirmation that Archie Gray will leave Tottenham in the middle of the season. But his lack of playing time has suggested otherwise. The midfielder has made five appearances but has failed to start a single game in the Premier League. He has featured in the EFL Cup as well as Europa League games under Ange Postecoglou.
Leeds are still being linked with Gray, as the club is seen as the perfect destination for the youngster who is looking for first team football. Daniel Farke revealed that he has been in “private” discussions with the player:
“I don’t speak about other players who are under contract at other clubs. I’m a bit reluctant to do any comments who are not under contract anymore.
“Our fingers are crossed for Archie and his whole career. If you want some recommendation, he already has my telephone number but I keep it pretty private what I recommend.”
Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have been suitable deputies in the absence of Ampadu and Gruev, but it does look like the team needs more quality in the middle of the park.
Will Gray return to Elland Road?
There is still some hope for Leeds fans, if it comes down to a move to Elland Road and another club in England, Gray would most certainly pick Leeds United. However, Spurs are reportedly looking for a loan to another club within the Premier League.
