Ohio State Police Address Accusations Following Ohio State-Michigan Brawl

No. 2 Ohio State fell to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday in a crushing loss for head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

Following the upset loss, the Buckeyes were eliminated from the Big Ten Championship race after Penn State’s win over Maryland on Saturday. Ohio State should still receive an at-large bid to the College Football Playoff but may have to travel in the first round.

After Michigan’s 13-10 win, multiple Wolverine players were trying to plant their flag in the middle of the field. As such, a massive brawl ensued between the team in a heated moment between the rivals.

On top of that, fans quickly made accusations of the police using pepper spray on players to try and stop the brawl at midfield. Other fans questioned whether pepper spray was used, although multiple videos surfaced of players in discomfort wiping their eyes.

Later on Saturday, the Ohio State Police released an official statement regarding the accusations.

“Following the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in breaking up an on-field altercation. During the scuffle, multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for games & will continue to investigate,” the statement read.

Below is a video of the brawl and the actions of multiple police officers on the field.

As of Saturday night, the Big Ten has not issued an official statement, but many expect suspensions and fines to be issued after the incident. It was an unreal scene in Columbus in one of the wildest moments of this historic rivalry’s history.

The Wolverines have now won four consecutive games against the Buckeyes, their longest winning streak in the rivalry since 1988-91.
