Kaizer Chiefs are set to promote young talent amidst striker hunt, according to Soccer Laduma.

Chiefs are making bold moves to strengthen their squad this January, prioritizing the signing of a new striker. Head coach Nasreddine Nabi emphasized the need to enhance the team’s attacking prowess, leading the club to adjust its defensive strategy. Instead of seeking an external defender, Chiefs are turning to their youth development system for reinforcements.

Rising star Timba joins senior ranks

In a strategic shift, Chiefs are promoting 19-year-old Sfiso Timba from their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team to provide additional cover in the right-back position. With only Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons as primary right backs, the club recognized the need for more depth in the role.

“The club has promoted youngsters in other departments, and now they feel that Sso (Timba) could fit well in that right-back position,” a source shared. “You know there are two main right backs in Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons. That’s why they want Timba to be their backup in that position, and he is set for promotion to the senior team.”

Balancing youth development and team fitness

Although Timba will continue playing with the DDC side to maintain match fitness, he will train full-time with the senior team. This dual-role approach ensures the teenager gains experience while staying sharp for first-team action.

“They just want to make sure that he keeps his match fitness while playing with the DDC side but will be training with the senior team. They have belief in him that he could be the right replacement for the two senior players,” another insider revealed. “The senior team is working hand-in-hand with DDC coach Vela Khumalo in promoting these youngsters, which is why you’re seeing most of them in the first team now.”

Timba’s impressive track record

Timba is no stranger to high-pressure football. As a regular for South Africa’s Under-17 team, he has represented the country in several international tournaments, showcasing his potential on a global stage. His promotion to the senior team is another milestone in his promising career.

By promoting Timba, Kaizer Chiefs reaffirm their commitment to nurturing homegrown talent and ensuring squad depth. This move not only saves the club from investing in another defender. But also strengthens the bridge between the DDC team and the senior squad.

As Chiefs gear up for the January transfer window. Integrating promising players like Timba into the first team highlights their long-term strategy for success. The combination of youth development and targeted signings could give Amakhosi the edge they need to dominate in the coming seasons.
