Nottingham Forest is interested in Manchester City youth Carlos Borges, and the Midlands club has begun preliminary negotiations over a possible transfer.
Steve Cooper is hoping to add goals to his side as Nottingham Forest prepare for their second season in the Premier League after ensuring their place with a win over Arsenal, which also assured Manchester City’s latest title.
Last season, Forest scored 38 goals in the Premier League, one of the lowest totals in the league, after Chris Wood, who was brought on loan from Newcastle United, had a season-ending injury in March.
Nottingham Forest are reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester City youth Carlos Borges, who has also been connected with Southampton and West Ham in order to bring more goals to the team next season.
The 19-year-old was named Premier League 2 player of the season for his contribution to Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad earning their third consecutive PL2 title under Brian Barry-Murphy’s supervision.
Borges scored 33 goals in 21 games in the PL2 last season, while also scoring four goals in the EFL Trophy and assisting on 10 UEFA Youth League goals.
The youthful forward also appeared in a friendly for the City first team against Girona in December, as Pep Guardiola’s squad prepared for the start of the Premier League season after the FIFA World Cup.
According to ESPN, Forest are “keen” on bringing Borges to the City Ground this summer, with conversations over a potential transfer in the early stages.
Borges, 19, has one year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and while a new agreement with Manchester City is still possible, the Sky Blues apparently value him at £11 million.
According to ESPN, City may attempt to sign Borges to a new contract and then allow him to leave on loan in pursuit of regular first-team minutes.
Several Manchester City players have recently had success on loan, with Tommy Doyle and James McAtee both enjoying successful seasons with Sheffield United in the Sky Bet Championship.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis and James Trafford, both goalkeepers, had success with Burnley and Bolton, respectively.
