The Portuguese is mostly a left winger, but his versatility makes him a valuable asset. He can play across a front three and is equally adept on either flank. However, it is his goal threat that truly distinguishes him.
“He’s a very exciting, direct winger,” City reporter Joe Bray remarked. “In a versatile system, he can score goals, take on players, and link with other players.” His 29 goals and 18 assists demonstrate his ability in front of goal, and he collaborated particularly well with opposite winger Dire Mebude.”
Borges was the highest striker in Premier League 2 last season, scoring 21 goals. As City won the Premier League title for the third time, he was voted the division’s Player of the Season.
If he moves to the City Ground, he will undoubtedly be warmly greeted by Reds fans. After all, he scored twice against Derby County in the EFL Trophy last October as the Under-21s won 3-1 at Pride Park.
Meanwhile, in a 6-1 demolition of the Manchester Under-21s, he scored four goals and set up another. His “blistering speed and clinical edge” generated a slew of issues for Manchester United.
Nonetheless, manager Brian Barry-Murphy emphasized his defensive abilities after the game. “For me, the performances where you work so hard for the team and you get your rewards doesn’t always happen, getting those goals and his defensive display was exceptional,” he told City’s in-house media (via the MEN).
“That is a big area of improvement for him; his attacking abilities are obvious and visible to all, and he was pretty clinical in finishing those chances.” He is an excellent young man and a wonderful person, therefore it is critical that we can push him in the areas where he needs to improve, as this is the most crucial aspect of his development.”
Borges previously stated, “I watch Sadio Mane; he’s a top winger, a top player.” I respect him. He’s quick and direct. He doesn’t do much; he prefers one-twos and goes when he needs to.
“My job is to try to assist the team.” When I get the opportunity, I do so. (A first-team call-up) would mean a lot to me, and I’ve been working for it my entire life. It’s not easy working at this club, but I have to keep working and putting in the effort. If the opportunity presents itself, we must seize it.”
