The NBA Summer League would provide another opportunity for the Celtics to study youngsters Yam Madar and Juhann Begarin, whom they selected in the second round of the 2020 and 2021 drafts, respectively.
However, those two draft-and-stash players are not expected to join the Celtics in Las Vegas next month.
According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, Madar and Begarin are both expected to skip Summer League this year due to commitments to their respective European teams.
Madar and Begarin have both previously played for the Celtics in the desert. After being picked No. 45 overall, Begarin participated in the last two Summer League sessions, while Madar played in 2021 but did not participate last year.
Madar, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard, made waves this season for Partizan Belgrade. The 22-year-old was named the EuroLeague’s Rising Star.
Begarin, who will turn 21 later this summer, also had a great showing in France’s top division while playing for Paris Basketball. The 6-foot-5 wing averaged 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game but is far from a polished outside shooter, connecting on only 27.9% of his three-point tries.
Both Madar and Begarin will continue their development overseas, and the Celtics will have to make a decision at some point if they see either of them making what appears to be an implausible jump to the NBA this season.
