Aston Villa want to recruit another Villarreal player, with attacking midfielder Alex Baena being a target for Monchi and Unai Emery.
What is the most recent Baena transfer news from Aston Villa?
The Villans haven’t spent any time in expanding their team ahead of Emery’s first full season, with a deal for midfielder Youri Tielemans already in place.
NSWE appear to be on the verge of shattering their club’s transfer record in order to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres, who has already made over 100 games under Emery. The 26-year-old’s contract talks are going well, and it appears that he will be joined by a teammate in Baena.
In the last 48 hours, Sport Witness received an update on Baena from Spanish publication AS. They said that Aston Villa and Barcelona are the two clubs’most interested’ in signing the player this summer, with Baena being regarded as one of the La Liga side’s’revelations’ last season.
Emery regards Baena as a’strategic signing’ for Aston Villa, and a transfer may cost the club roughly €50 million (£42.5 million).
Baena, 21, is primarily an offensive midfielder who can also play on the wing if needed. He appears to be on the rise, with his Transfermarkt valuation now at a career-high €20 million.
The Spain U21 international came up via Villarreal’s development system and is represented by the same agency as Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
In 69 Villarreal first-team appearances, he has 14 goals and 12 assists, with 18 of those goals coming in 36 games under Emery.
