Newcastle United have been advised that if they want to improve on last season’s fourth-place position, they must sign the top players from the bottom half of the table. And James Maddison of Leicester City is exactly the type of guy they should be looking for.
Champions League football is back to St James’ Park, and Eddie Howe is hoping to bolster his team in order to challenge at the top of the table once more. Chelsea have already signaled their determination to provide incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino with a transfer war chest, having completed the £63 million signing of Christopher Nkunku.
Arsenal is also pursuing West Ham’s Declan Rice after a £90 million bid was rejected. Newcastle United will be aiming to make a couple of major signings of their own, and’special talent’ Maddison is thought to be a good match.
Following Leicester City’s relegation, the England midfielder is anticipated to move, with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur the two clubs most likely to sign him. Newcastle officials are thought to have been working on a deal for some months, while Spurs made their move last week, submitting a £50 million offer for both Maddison and his teammate Harvey Barnes.
Maddison’s future has been the subject of considerable speculation this summer, and he was once again the subject of transfer speculation on TalkSPORT, with former England player Andros Townsend believing Newcastle would be a better fit.
However, he believes it is critical for the Magpies to complete this agreement in order to attract new players.
