Following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Arsenal have all been connected with the £25million-rated Adams, and the Whites appear to be fighting to keep him. Alexi Lalas, a former USA soccer player, has now weighed in on the 24-year-old’s future, claiming that one suitor would be the ideal fit for him.
Lalas, who is now a commentator, believes Villa Park is the best fit for the USMNT captain, who joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last summer. Villa, who are headed by Unai Emery, are said to be making the strongest effort to sign Adams.
“I don’t want to see Tyler Adams play in the Championship,” Lalas stated on LeedsLive’s State of the Nation podcast. “I’d love to see this [relocation to Aston Villa].” Tyler Adams can compete against anyone.”
Last season, Lalas named Adams the finest of Leeds’ American contingent, which also included Weston McKennie and Brenden Aaronson. “I think Tyler is the most valuable of the trio of Adams, McKennie, and Aaronson, and he did himself the best in terms of the way he is viewed,” he stated.
Adams had a strong start to his Premier League debut, starting 24 of Leeds’ first 26 games after joining from the Bundesliga for £20 million. However, his absence from the remaining 12 games owing to a hamstring injury proved to be a big setback for Leeds, who ended five points from safety.
Notably, after being given the armband, Adams played every minute of his country’s four matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
