Tottenham Hotspur now 99% close in deal to sign £52-a-week Bundesliga monster

According to Rudy Galetti, Tottenham are on the verge of signing a’monster’ £52-a-week Bundesliga talent.

Tottenham Hotspur target and Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba is ‘one step away’ from moving to north London, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.

After spending £17 million to sign goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Serie A club Empoli, the club will now focus on strengthening their defensive line.

Arsenal have blown the rest of the Premier League out of the water with their business, but Spurs have also been savvy in their purchases, with James Maddison the most recent.

On his Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano said that the Spurs had now prioritized the Burkina Faso-born defender.

“I keep saying Tapsoba is a priority target because they [the Spurs] adore Tapsoba.” Tottenham scouts have visited Tapsoba several times this year. So he is a player they adore and believe is ideal for Premier League football,” Romano explained.

“He’s a boss. So there are numerous elements to consider in a transaction, and Tottenham believes he is a wonderful alternative.”

Tapsoba, who earns £52,000 a week, has two years left on his contract but could leave Leverkusen before it expires.

With Clement Lenglet’s departure from London, Spurs now have one fewer option, implying that a new center-back should be the next item on their ever-expanding wish list.

Pau Torres, formerly of Villarreal, was also on Spurs’ radar until Unai Emery’s Aston Villa came in to capture the ‘Rolls-Royce’ defensive hero for £35 million, according to The Guardian.

He told GIVEMESPORT exclusively: “On the table, there are around €25m, and the German club is concretely evaluating this proposal.” Arsenal asked for him last winter, but now they’ve decided to go with Timber, who is also near.

“So, the Burkina Faso player [Tapsoba] is one step closer to joining Tottenham.” They will positively push and seal the deal in the next days.

Spurs shipped 63 goals in the 2022/23 Premier League season, implying that defensive reinforcements – in the form of Tapsoba – would be a prudent option, especially as they embark on a European-less, Ange Postecoglou-led Premier League season.

The 24-year-old has been dubbed a “monster” by journalist Antonio Mango during his time at Die Schwarzroten.

He is not just defensively sound, but his passing statistics reveal him to be one of Europe’s most reliable passers and ball progressors at centre-back.

In the last 365 days, he made 1.46 progressive carries and 0.59 successful take-ons per 90, ranking in the top 6% of his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues for progressing carrying distance.

Tapsoba’s acquisition would be a sure-fire method to shore up the defense while also injecting some creativity from deep, with his ball-playing and carrying abilities set to shine in England’s top division.
