The annual Golden Boy award has a star-studded cast, with Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala, Alejandro Garnacho, and last year’s winner Gavi all named to the 100-strong longlist. Tuttosport, an Italian publication, awards the honor to the best under-21 player in European football, and their top-10 index puts Musiala as the favorite, though the voting will be decided by journalists.
The top names on the Golden Boy 100-strong longlist for 2023 are Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala, Alejandro Garnacho, and Gavi.
Gavi won the award in 2022 and, at the age of 18, is still entitled to defend his title.
Musiala leads the Golden Boy Index, a data-driven rating of Europe’s top 100 young players, with Bellingham, who signed with Real Madrid this week, coming in second and Gavi coming in third.
Musiala, of Bayern Munich and Germany, scored 16 goals in 2022/23, establishing himself as one of the world’s top young midfielders.
Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Raheem Sterling, and Wayne Rooney have all previously won the award.
