Nottingham Forest transfer news as Steve Cooper’s Reds look for summer additions ahead of the Premier League season
Nottingham Forest are thought to be “big favourites” to sign Konstantinos Mavropanos, despite stiff competition.
Stuttgart are allegedly open to letting the center-back leave this summer. Along with the Reds, Premier League rivals Fulham, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Napoli have all expressed interest.
Forest has previously suggested that a bid of 10 million euros (£8.5 million) was in the works. Mavropanos is thought to have a release clause of 25 million euros (£21 million), but Stuttgart could let him leave for as little as 15-20 million euros (£12.8-17 million).
The Reds are “one of the big favourites” to win the race for the 25-year-old, according to Greek media site Sportime. They do, however, state that it remains to be seen whether Forest or one of the player’s other admirers can meet the requisite asking price.
The City Ground has had a quiet start to the transfer window, with head coach Steve Cooper yet to welcome any new players to his squad. Nonetheless, incomings and outgoings are expected this summer as Forest seeks to expand.
Although it is not strictly a key area for improvement, the Reds will examine their center defense options. They want to tighten up at the back next season, which might lead to a boost in that department’s ranks.
Steve Cook has already stated that a decision on his future must be made, given that he was left out of the 25-man squad following the January window and has a year left on his contract. Contracts are also in place for Joe Worrall, Loic Mbe Soh, Scott McKenna, Willy Boly, and Felipe through 2024.
Moussa Niakhate and Jonathan Panzo are both under contract until 2025, however the latter is likely to leave due to considerable interest from the Rangers.Giulian Biancone can also play at center-back, but he will have to compete for a spot as he returns from an extended layoff due to an ACL injury.
