Newcastle United beat top clubs in race to sign world’s best youngster midfield genus this summer

Newcastle are now ‘favourites’ to recruit Inter Milan prodigy Kevin Zefi, according to The Irish Examiner, as our search for the world’s greatest youths continues.

Zefi moved to Italy two years ago from his hometown club Shamrock Rovers, and he has represented Ireland at the U15, U17, and U19 levels.

With only one year remaining on his contract with the Serie A side, the 18-year-old is expected to find a new team this summer, and it appears Newcastle is keeping a careful eye on his position.

As the Irish Times reports, Dan Ashworth has already welcomed two of Zefi’s Ireland Under-19s colleagues, Alex Murphy and Reece Byrne, to the club. This would undoubtedly help him settle in and indicates that our sporting director has solid connections in Ireland when it comes to young talent.

With teenage prodigy Yankuba Minteh already joining from Danish side Odense this summer, this would not be the first U21 signing we’ve made this summer as our scouting network expands.
