Newcastle United plotting fast to raid Chelsea on double world record signing

Newcastle United are in the market for two Chelsea players, one of them is Trevoh Chalobah.

The Magpies have been linked with a loan move for Conor Gallagher, but he is not the only Blue Eddie Howe is interested in.

Newcastle are hoping to add another midfielder following the announcement of a deal for Sandro Tonali, but that is not the club’s main focus in the summer window. Toon authorities are also looking for a right-sided center-back to compete with Fabian Schar.

Despite a stunning revival under Howe, the Switzerland international is 31 years old and will need to be replaced in the future years.

Newcastle should bring in someone who can eventually replace Schar, which is why Chalobah is an attractive prospect.

Trevoh Chalobah is being pursued by Newcastle.

Newcastle have shown an interest in Chelsea centre-back Nathaniel Chalobah, according to 90min. Crystal Palace and West Ham are also interested, according to the report.

According to the source, the Blues want to keep the 23-year-old at Stamford Bridge and are protected by his long contract. Chalobah extended his contract until 2028 last year.

With Chelsea keen to keep Chalobah, who has five years left on his contract, it is difficult to see how Newcastle can strike a deal for a player compared to one of the Premier League’s greatest centre-backs.

Ian Wright is a big fan of the Chelsea defender.

Chalobah made his senior Chelsea debut in 2021, scoring on his Premier League debut while Thomas Tuchel was in charge in West London.

It was a promising start for the kid, who dazzled Arsenal icon Ian Wright ahead of his top-flight debut that summer. He even likened Chalobah to Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

“Watching him against Arsenal (in pre-season), I was thinking, ‘Wow, he looks good,'” he stated in August 2021 on his podcast Wrighty’s House.

“When I saw him play against Villarreal, I thought, ‘My God, he’s really terrific.’

“He reminded me of Virgil van Dijk when he played for Celtic, not the same player, not the same stature.” People claimed he was taking liberties just because he was good and not held to the same standard as the other players.”

Van Dijk carried that confidence with him from Celtic to Southampton and then to Liverpool, where he has won everything and established himself as one of the game’s finest defenders.

While Wright does not claim Chalobah is the same player as Van Dijk, he would be a top-tier signing if he could achieve even half of what the Dutchman has accomplished in his career.

In reality, a deal appears to be unattainable. That’s a shame, because signing Chalobah would fill two spots. He can also play right back, which allows him to cover for Kieran Trippier.
