NBA report reveals heavy contract talks stands between Boston Celtics and Jaylen Brown

Brad Stevens, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations, has been very active this offseason, pulling off moves to redefine Boston’s on-court identity.

However, despite having had since last Saturday to lock Jaylen Brown into a supermax extension — a deal that could pay the Celtics star about $295 million over five years — the two sides have yet to strike an agreement.

That may raise some concern among Celtics fans, especially with trade speculations surrounding Damian Lillard, but there doesn’t appear to be much doubt in the NBA that the Celtics and Brown will reach an agreement.

“The Celtics are not shopping their All-NBA forward,” Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe said Thursday. “They do not intend to make him a low-ball offer.” There have simply been more pressing issues for Brown’s camp and the Celtics to address first. Sure, there will be some incentive talks, but league sources continue to believe Brown and the Celtics will finally agree on a supermax deal.”

This offseason, the league has already seen a number of max deals signed, including Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, and Desmond Bane.

Brown and the Celtics have obviously adopted a more measured approach, but things could heat up quickly as a schedule for completing the supermax deal begins to develop.

“Sources said the sides are expected to talk during the Las Vegas summer league, which begins on Friday,” Himmelsbach said.
