Three first team players shown exit door as Nottingham Forest prepare hard to next season

According to reports, three Nottingham Forest players, one of whom only signed in January, could now depart the club. The Reds are attempting to restructure their team ahead of the new season, with outgoings as essential as incomings.

The Reds are willing to let three players depart their first-team squad, according to Football Insider. Remo Freuler, Jonjo Shelvey, and Emmanuel Dennis are all on the verge of leaving the City Ground.

The Shelvey decision is possibly the most intriguing. He merely signed a two-and-a-half-year contract in January. He didn’t play to his full potential, but the fact that the club is now looking to sell him underlines the club’s scattergun approach to recruitment.

Last season, Shelvey got into a fight with Steve Cooper. Following a glaring error against Aston Villa, he was informed that he would not be starting against Liverpool. Shelvey was unimpressed, and Cooper removed him from the squad entirely.

However, selling him will be difficult. Forest will have given him a fair salary, and finding someone to take it on will most certainly be difficult.

Freuler may have had a bad run of luck. With his resume, he can’t be regarded a bad player, although Forest don’t really use him in a way that allows him to play his best football.

It’s not surprising that the club is willing to let Dennis leave. Last season, he appeared in 19 games and scored two goals for the club.

Dennis, like Freuler, does not fit readily into the Forest system and has spent most of his time on the flanks.

Next season, the Reds aspire to have a more streamlined roster. Allowing these three players would be a very good start, although it’s more fantasy than reality.

It’s difficult to envisage Forest convincing a club to sign Shelvey. He wasn’t doing anything for the Reds, and Newcastle couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

It may be easier to move on from Freuler and Dennis. Freuler will almost certainly have admirers in Serie A, while Dennis was a target for a number of clubs during the January transfer window.

For the time being, all three players will put in a lot of effort in practice. It will be intriguing to watch how the Forest group looks for the season opener against Arsenal in mid-August.
