Villa have already signed Youri Tielemans on a free transfer when he left Leicester City, and more acquisitions are on the way.

Torres will be reunited with Villa boss Unai Emery after their successful collaboration at Villarreal.

The 26-year-old was a key goal for Emery as he aims to improve on his seventh-place result last season, which ensured a place in Europe.

Emery earlier stated of Torres in 2021: “Pau Torres is an amazing player — I think he’s top,” the Villa manager remarked. “I’ve been a coach in Sevilla, PSG, and Arsenal, and I’ve never seen a centre back like Pau Torres.”

Torres, who has 23 caps for Spain, has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich following his outstanding La Liga performances last season.

Torres came up through Villarreal’s junior system and has made over 170 appearances for the club. He was a member of Spain’s World Cup squad in Qatar in 2022.

Torres was first in La Liga last season for centre-backs with the most effective passes. He made 1,846 successful passes, which put him ahead of Unai Nunez (1,739) and Jules Kounde (1,632).
