As Unai Emery continues his quest for a flexible striker, Aston Villa have reportedly had their initial proposal for AC Milan forward Charles De Ketelaere rejected.
De Ketelaere was once considered one of Europe’s most intriguing young players, and he made a sensational £30.3 million move to Milan last summer, but things didn’t work out.
Despite appearing in 30 games across all competitions, he has yet to score a single goal and has only registered one assist. The majority of these outings have come off the bench, but the point remains: he’s been lackluster.

This initial offer was rejected, but it was close to what Milan was looking for. According to reports, a €28 million (£24 million) fee will be required to balance Milan’s entire financial statements.
In this case, the Serie A giants would still incur a loss, but it would be minor in comparison to the valuation decline caused by the player’s poor form over the previous 12 months.
Although no other clubs have joined Villa in making a bid as of yet, Everton and Crystal Palace have been widely rumoured to be interested.
It remains to be seen whether a move to England will improve De Ketelaere’s career advancement, but his failure to get off to a good start in Italy is certain.
De Ketelaere, who can play in any attacking midfield position or any of the front three positions, would provide good cover in a variety of locations – a huge plus.
