Leeds United all set for deal as Palmieras board react to Joaquin Piquerez bombardment

The Brazilian news outlet stated on their website on 22 July that Leeds United had approached the club with their interest, but the board has ruled out selling Piquerez due to the club’s high demand for players.

According to OK Fichajes, three Spanish clubs are interested in current Leeds United left-back Junior Firpo.

Leeds United’s interest in Piquerez appears to be new, as it was first reported this morning by Brazilian journalist Diego Firmino, but it demonstrates that the club is looking for talent as far away as South America.

old Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa handed Piquerez his most recent Uruguay cap, so there is already a connection between the player and the club, with Bielsa sure to put in a good word for his old club.

The new Leeds United owners have made it a priority to bring in players with international experience, with Piquerez’s nine caps joining those of the club’s newest acquisition, Ethan Ampadu, who has 44 caps for Wales.

If Leeds can agree on terms, bringing in a new left-back to provide quality in their team after the departure of several defensive players would be a fantastic acquisition.

The club has already lost a number of players this season, but with the news of the 49ers takeover competition, the club is finally looking to invest some money.
