Despite the fact that Romeo Lavia and James Ward-Prowse are still at the Saints, Russell Martin is still interested in signing Hamza Choudhury.
The only two senior players to be permanently sold are Ibrahima Diallo and Mislav Orsic, both of whom were unlikely to be in new head coach Russell Martin’s plans anyway, but the big hitters of his squad have so far remained at St Mary’s Stadium.
Bids for Tino Livramento have been rejected, but there is ongoing interest in Armel Bella-Kotchap, Che Adams, Romeo Lavia, James Ward-Prowse, and others, suggesting that more bids may be forthcoming.
Southampton of course have already made a splash in the transfer market, not only adding Ryan Manning from Swansea City on a free transfer to their squad but they have also spent the best part of £15 million on Man City’s teenage midfielder Shea Charles.
More boosting will be necessary by the Saints’ recruitment team, especially when their top stars are undoubtedly cashed in on, with the engine room being one area in need of reinforcing.
Large bids are expected for Lavia and Ward-Prowse, and while Charles has been purchased, more will be required in that field.
The Saints were connected with a bid for Leicester City player Hamza Choudhury last month, but nothing came of it – but Sky Sports are now reporting that the south coast club are back in for the 25-year-old midfielder and are anxious to complete a deal.
