Leeds United set to hijack AC Milan striker as Saudi transfer link pop up

Leeds United are likely to hijack an AC Milan striker as a Saudi transfer link emerges.

Al-Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia has joined Leeds United in their pursuit of Divock Origi.

Steven Gerrard, manager of Premier League club Al-Ettifaq, wants to offer the 28-year-old “huge money” to join him.

If a deal is reached, the ex-Liverpool striker will be reunited with Jordan Henderson, who is on the verge of a £700,000-per-week move to the Saudi Pro League.

Crystal Palace and West Ham are also rumoured to be interested in the striker, but a high-value offer from Saudi Arabia appears impossible to turn down.

Origi presently plays for AC Milan, and with three years remaining on his contract, the Rossoneri are apparently looking to unload the Belgian after he was left out of the Rossoneri’s pre-season tour of the United States.

His experiment in Italy failed, and with only two goals in 36 games, he requires a new atmosphere to rocket him back to his effervescent and endearing best.

The 32-cap international previously played at Liverpool, and while he never managed to secure continuous game time, he emerged as an essential component of Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

The end of the 2018/19 season will be remembered most warmly by Liverpool supporters, as he scored twice in their Champions League semi-final victory over Barcelona to help his club overcome a 3-0 deficit. Then, in the final against Tottenham Hotspur, he scored the Reds’ second goal, clinching the club’s sixth European Cup.

Klopp praised him as a “Liverpool legend” ahead of his final game for the Merseyside giants.

He also praised the forward’s mentality and influence, saying: “He’s a positive person. He is talented, he shoots left and right, he is really quick, in the air – he is a monster. He is an interesting package.

“His skill set is unique; he can come in and play brilliantly.” He began the biggest game in our history against Barcelona in 2019, and he was amazing. Divock is very great in various instances.”

The £85k-per-week man might be vital assistance for Patrick Bamford, who has had some bad luck recently. A succession of ailments has stopped the Englishman from establishing any noticeable consistency in terms of form or health, as he has started only 25 of Leeds’ past 76 Premier League games, scoring six goals.
