According to Football Insider, Tottenham are ready to make forward Alejo Veliz their eighth summer signing after completing a deal worth £12.9 million plus add-ons.
Spurs are in early talks with Rosario Central over a deal for the 19-year-old, who might yet sign and return to Rosario Central on loan.
A physical is set to take place in the coming days as Tottenham attempt to finalize the signing of Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven in a £43 million deal.
Spurs have already signed six players: Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon, and Ashley Phillips, who will arrive soon.
Rosario are resigned to losing Veliz to Spurs, with the major point of contention being a possible buy-to-loan agreement.
The Argentine Primera Division’s second phase begins in late August and lasts until mid-November.
Spurs see Veliz, who played for Argentina in the Under-20 World Cup earlier this year, as a player for the future rather than an immediate first-teamer.
The London club compares him to Pape Matar Sarr, who signed from Metz in the summer of 2021 but spent a season on loan with the French club.
Veliz’s current contract in Argentina expires in 2025 after he signed a new contract with the first squad last summer.
The striker has appeared in 62 games for Rosario in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing two assists.
In other reports, Tottenham has reached an agreement in principle with a defender and will thereafter make a 24-year-old bid.
