Newcastle United maintains huge interest to sign Chelsea star as player keen to join Eddie Howe

Newcastle United are still interested in signing Chelsea star Christian Pulisic, who is said to want to join Eddie Howe at St James’ Park.

The Magpies suffered heartache in the League Cup final over the weekend as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Howe has done an outstanding job so far this season, leading Newcastle to Wembley and keeping them in contention for a top-four finish.

Newcastle, on the other hand, will be looking ahead to the summer in order to maintain the momentum they’ve built this season.

Over the last two transfer windows, Pulisic has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, with journalist Pete O’Rourke speculating last month that the 24-year-old would be interested.

And it appears that the Magpies are still interested in signing the USMNT star ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to 90 Min, both Pulisic and Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen are still on Newcastle’s radar.

The outlet notes that Howe is also keen to target a new full-back, centre-back and central midfielder during the summer.

Pulisic has had a difficult time since moving to Stamford Bridge from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

Despite being dubbed a “superstar” during his time at Chelsea, he has struggled to secure a starting spot.

The former Dortmund winger had a promising start to his career in England and has proven to be a talented USMNT player.

Newcastle did, after all, sign a wide player in Anthony Gordon last month. However, Howe will be looking to add to his attacking options, and Pulisic could be a great fit for the club.

He struggled at Chelsea, but you get the impression that if he is given a bigger role at Newcastle, he could shine.

And, with the Blues reportedly demanding around £31 million for the forward, it may be a risk worth taking for Howe.
