DONE DEAL: Western Bulldogs have successfully recruited former top 10 picks 

Carlton, Essendon, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs have finalised a deal including two players.

St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs have successfully recruited former top 10 picks Paddy Dow and Nick Coffield respectively in a four-club trade that also included Carlton and Essendon on Monday.

The Saints add Dow from the Blues while sending Coffield to Whitten Oval, with nine picks also part of the trade as the Bombers helped to get the deal over the line.

According to AFL.com.au, the Blues have received a trio of future selections for the loss of Dow, who joined Carlton as the third overall pick in the 2017 National Draft.

Coffield was taken just five spots later in the same draft and has also headed to his second club, with the Saints gathering Pick 40 and a future third-round selection along with the acquisition of Dow.

The Dogs have given up Pick 40 to get Coffield through the door, while also picking up Picks 52 and 56 in the deal.

Essendon’s involvement has seen them move Pick 52 and a future third-round selection for Pick 35 and the Carlton’s future fourth-round pick as the only club not involved in the player-swapping part of the transaction.

Dow departs after six seasons with the Blues, where he played 73 games – 10 of which came in the second half of this season. The 24-year-old Dow was among the VFL’s best players this year, averaging 31.4 disposals, 8.0 clearances and 4.5 tackles per outing at the state league level.

Coffield hasn’t played at AFL level since the the end of 2021, having sustained an ACL injury early last year before facing a string of calf issues in 2023.
