Everton facing Dele Alli conundrum, may need to hold Tottenham talks
Everton “can’t afford” to pay £10million extra to Tottenham for Dele Alli and may need to Spurs to accept renegotiated terms if they are to play him regularly this season, according to presenter Benj Winstanley.
Attacking midfielder Alli has not featured for the Toffees since returning from a loan spell at Besiktas due to injury issues.
The former England international was hoping to make an impact at Everton after opening up about his mental health issues in an interview with Gary Neville earlier this year.
Winstanley said Alli only has seven more games before Everton have to pay an extra £10m to Spurs, something the A View From The Bullens podcast host told GiveMeSport (20 October) they will not be able to do.
“With Dele Alli, I think there are seven games left that he can play for Everton before they have to give Tottenham a £10million financial package. That, obviously, hampers his chances and I do feel sorry for the boy,” he said.
“If there is a way that Everton could go to Tottenham Hotspur and try to renegotiate the terms and conditions after his mental state was made clear on the documentary with Gary Neville, it would be great to see him playing football back to his best.
“But if that can’t be done, Everton can’t afford to be paying £10million out for a player whose contract will run out at the end of the season.”
Let’s hope it gets solved
Everyone who watched the Alli interview with Neville was moved by his story and really rooting for him to get back to fitness and form with Everton this season.
If Alli could find his best form then what a player Everton would have on their hands. But obviously the most important thing is that Alli is able to find peace and happiness in his personal life, some things are just more important than football.
But if he is able to play then a solution really needs to be found between the two parties, nothing would be worse than getting him fit to play, allowing him to feature, then saying he can no longer player because Everton cannot meet the financial terms.
So, for everyone’s sake, if it comes to it then let’s hope all sides can get around the table and find a resolution that fits to help a young man do what he loves to do and do what he does best.
It’s the right thing to do, let’s all hope we see Alli playing and flourishing again, and doing so in an Everton shirt would be an even bigger bonus.
