JUST IN: Everton match postponed due to travel issues as new date schedule

Everton Under-21s will now face Athletic Bilbao at a later date after the Premier League International Cup clash between the sides was postponed

The Premier League International Cup encounter between Everton Under-21s and their Athletic Bilbao counterparts at Walton Hall Park tonight (Wednesday, October 25) has been postponed.

Paul Tait’s side were due to play their first match of this season’s competition.. However due to travel issues – namely flight cancellations – the game with Bilbao will have be rescheduled.

Everton, Feyenoord and Fulham are the only clubs yet to kick off their campaign in Group C. They have been pitted alongside Crystal Palace, Monaco, Benfica and Liverpool

Palace currently lead the way with four points from their opening two games. Liverpool, meanwhile, have just one point, following their draw at home with Benfica on Sunday, and having gone down at home to Monaco last month.

Everton will be looking to replicate the success that they tasted in the competition last season. They topped their group before exiting at the quarter-finals stage to eventual winners PSV Eindhoven

At domestic level, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the young Blues. In Premier League 2, they have five points from their opening six matches, picking up just one win.

It’s been a tough start for Tait’s youngsters but after they managed to end their winless start by beating Norwich City 2-1 at Walton Hall Park, they then drew 1-1 with Arsenal at Southport.

Everton Under-21s are scheduled to next be in Premier League International Cup action on November 28 when they host Monaco. But first up is a trip to Newcastle United in Premier League 2 on Sunday.
