Brighton and Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro admits he was ‘upset’ about that failed £30 million move to Premier League rivals Newcastle United back in 2022.
At least, back in England’s top flight and rewarded for his impressive recent displays with a first-ever call-up for the Brazilian national team, Joao Pedro can now look back on that aborted switch to St James’ Park and be relieved that it did not end up curtailing his progress.
Watford refused to cash in even when receiving a £30 million bid from Newcastle United a year ago (Sky Sports). Brighton, ironically, would then strike a deal for an identical fee less than 12 months later.
From Brighton to Brazil
“I’ve always been a very down-to-earth guy,” Pedro smiles. “But I knew that my opportunity would arrive at any moment. I am a young man who has been working hard.
“For the moment I’m living, (a Brazil call up) was deserved. Now, it’s time to go there, do my best and help the Brazilian team, which is everyone’s dream.
“Talking about the scale of what Brighton is experiencing today, competing in the Premier League and Europa League, it is my best moment (of my career).”
