Julen Lopetegui has admirers from Nottingham Forest as he lines up another job in the Premier League.
Wolves parted company with the Spaniard in August just days before the 2023/24 season was due to start.
Forest could act on Steve Cooper if the club’s results don’t improve, with Evangelos Marinakis growing frustrated.
The Reds were beaten 3-2 by Brighton yesterday to leave Forest eight points above the relegation zone in the Premier League.
Lopetegui has admirers from Forest
According to the Daily Mail, it’s not anticipated that the Reds are considering making an immediate decision.
They suggest that Marinakis is growing frustrated with results and Forest have now dropped 11 points from winning positions.
That won’t help Cooper and his coaching staff. Now, it’s believed that wins are required quickly to help improve the club’s league position and the fate of the head coach.
Lopetegui has enjoyed quite an intriguing managerial career to date.
He’s managed Real Madrid and the Spain national team, whilst he was also relatively successful with Sevilla.
He’s overseen a Europa League victory and also won youth competitions with the Spain under-19 and under-21 teams.
Whoever replaces Cooper is unlikely to be popular
Cooper has earned credit in the bank for what he’s achieved at Forest so far but that is quickly running out.
Whoever comes in to replace such a popular figure will likely be universally unpopular.
However, football is a results-based business and Forest dropping 11 points from winning positions is just pathetic.
Lopetegui would likely jump at the chance to move to Forest should a vacancy arise.
He appears to be waiting patiently for his chance to return to the game, with the Premier League likely to be in his sights.
Forest have Everton to come in the Premier League next and a win is desperately needed from Cooper’s point of view.
