Aston Villa in battle with Arsenal to sign £50m Bayer star this summer

According to reports, Aston Villa have joined Arsenal in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have become the latest team to express an interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, with the club checking on the Frenchman’s status this summer.

Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to add a winger to his Villa squad, but Leverkusen wants £50 million to sell. As things now stand, that would be a club-record contract for Villa.

According to the Mail, Diaby has also piqued the interest of Premier League clubs Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester United, with the Gunners still wanting to add one more attacking option this summer.

Last month, Loic Tanzi of L’Equipe stated that while Diaby is a key target for Newcastle United, he is not a priority for them.

Newcastle, it was suggested, had fallen behind Arsenal in encouraging the player to join them in a summer transfer.

The Mail reports that Diaby has caught the interest of Premier League clubs Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester United, with the Gunners still looking to add another attacking option this summer.

Loic Tanzi of L’Equipe reported last month that while Diaby is a prominent target for Newcastle United, he is not a priority.

Newcastle, it was claimed, had lagged behind Arsenal in courting the player for a summer transfer.

The French press is fully convinced that Arsenal is still interested in Diaby, but Aston Villa is their latest competition for the trade.

Diaby is under contract with Leverkusen until 2025, and he has 14 goals and 11 assists in 2022/23, taking his total for Bayer Leverkusen to 49 goals and 48 assists in 172 games.

The 23-year-old France international can also play on either wing.
