According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are interested in signing Leeds United player Wilfried Gnonto during the current summer transfer window.
The Midlands-based club is undergoing a renaissance under Unai Emery and are a team on the rise. They are also looking for agreements for bright young players and appear to be focusing on the Elland Road star.
The 19-year-old spent several years in the Inter Milan youth system before making his senior debut with FC Zurich. He joined Elland Road last summer and appeared in 28 games, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
Gnonto is primarily a left winger, but he can play anywhere in the frontline. This adaptability should provide Emery with choices for how to use the Italian star in a variety of situations.
The teenager is a full Italian international and was one of Leeds’ few bright spots in a forgettable season. He is now expected to return to the Premier League and continue his development in the English top division.
Despite his potential, Gnonto is still a raw talent in need of fine-tuning. Working under a disciplined strategist like Emery could help him reach his full potential more than staying in the Championship with Leeds.
Villa is presently competing for the 19-year-old with Everton and other overseas teams. Given their top-flight status and big intentions, the Villians stand a good chance of enticing the teenager by pitching their concept.
With Philippe Coutinho’s future uncertain at Villa Park, Leon Bailey is the club’s only identifiable option on the left wing. On his day, the Bayer Leverkusen star is a handful, but he has a habit of going missing at times. Adding Gnonto gives Emery alternatives while also adding depth to an already number-light position.
The potential for the Italian ace is clearly high, and he is at a point in his career where adequate direction is required. Elland Road is far from stable at the moment.
