After trials Exeter City elect not to recruit a pair of outgoing Coventry City and Aston Villa players

The Grecians, on the other hand, will not be offering them contracts, and they will have to continue to assess their alternatives as free agents.

DevonLive reports that midfielder Lewis Spence, who has previously played for Dundee, Ross County, and Scunthorpe United, is also not in line for an offer from the League One club.

Exeter City Council makes choices.

Gary Caldwell is gearing up for his first full season as manager of Exeter City and has been hard at work putting his own stamp on the squad throughout the transfer window. The Scotsman has bolstered his squad with the additions of Jack Aitchison, Reece Cole, Vincent Harper, and Dion Rankine.

Dacosta would have increased competition for the Grecians’ left-back position. He moved to England from Chamois Niortais in 2020 when Coventry came knocking, and he went on to make 24 appearances for the Sky Blues across all competitions.

The Marseille academy graduate, however, spent the majority of his time at the Coventry Building Society on loan at Portimonense, Shrewsbury Town, and most recently AS Nancy, and Mark Robins’ side decided not to prolong his stay when his contract expired at the end of June.

Young now faces a major decision after Exeter declined to sign him. After progressing through Villa’s youth systems, the 20-year-old recently parted ways with the club.

He appeared in four Premier League matches for the club and spent time on loan at Carlisle United and Ayr United. However, his lack of experience may have been a factor in Caldwell’s decision not to hire him.
