The Toronto Blue Jays are nearing the conclusion of George Springer’s tenure.
Blue Jays outfielder George Springer’s time in Toronto looks to be coming to an end
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is coming off the worst season of his career in 2024 and has continued to struggled this year in Spring Training which now puts his future with the team in jeopardy.
The Blue Jays brought in hitting coach David Popkins this off-season who has been working wonders for a ton of the team in terms of improving their hitting but unfortunately Springer is not one of them.
Blue Jays outfielder George Springer’s time in Toronto is coming to an end as he continues to struggle
Springer was atrocious at the plate last season with the Blue Jays, finishing with a .220 batting average, .303 on base percentage and 19 homeruns to go along with 56 RBIs which was by far his worst season since his rookie year.
So far in Spring Training, Springer has somehow managed to look even worse at the plate as he currently has a .136 batting average with 3 hits and 2 RBIs in 22 at bats in the Grapefruit League.
Fans have been everywhere online talking about how bad he has been playing and are desperately hoping that the team gets rid of him since he will be massive liability for them this season.
If George Springer is on the team for more than 20 games I’m gonna lose it
The tough part is that the Blue Jays options are very limited when it comes to Springer because no one will want to touch his $25 million salary with the numbers he is putting up.
The only real option they have is to DFA him but that would mean that the front office would have to admit defeat but regardless they will not look good even if they keep him because he will certainly have the worst contract in the MLB this season.
Easy for me to say because I won’t be the one eating $50MM over the next 2 seasons, but I would personally DFA George Springer today and not think twice about it.
The Blue Jays need to figure something out because it does not look like keeping him on the team is a viable option if they plan on winning.
