DONE DEAL: Brentford broken their club-record transfer fee to sign Igor in a £30 million deal

Brentford have broken their club-record transfer fee to sign Igor Thiago from Club Brugge in a £30 million deal. The 23-year-old Brazilian caught the eye of The Bees after scoring 29 goals in all competitions last season and has become the West Londoners’ first signing of the summer. “That’s what I was looking for, to gain good energy, win titles, make a name for myself, make history,” he said.

Igor Thiago has joined Premier League side Brentford from Club Brugge in a club-record £30 million deal.

The 23-year-old joins as the club’s first Brazilian player and is The Bees’ first signing of the summer transfer window.

Following his arrival, Thiago told the club he aims to “make history” in West London after an impressive stint in Belgium.

I’m very happy to have signed for Brentford and to get to know the club,” Thiago, who scored 18 goals in 34 Belgian top-flight games last season, said.

He continued: “It’s an immense source of happiness for me, to be able to play for this club in the Premier League.

“I’m really looking forward to this moment. And I know, I’m sure of it, that it will be a great journey and a great season.

I’m always looking for more. I think that throughout my career, since I left Brazil, I think that’s what I was looking for, to gain good energy, win titles, make a name for myself, make history.

“With a lot of work, dedication and commitment, good times will come.”

The forward has been handed the No. 9 shirt at the Gtech Community Stadium and could replace England forward Ivan Toney, who has been linked with a move away this summer.

Thiago’s 18-goal haul last campaign helped Club Brugge reclaim the Belgian first division title, his second domestic trophy in as many seasons in European football.

Across all competitions during the 2023/24 season, the former Ludogorets Razgrad player struck 29 goals in 55 games and provided six assists.
