DONE DEAL: Tottenham to agree add-ons for £50m+ Ivan Toney transfer as personal terms struck

Tottenham will look to agree a series of add-ons to secure a deal for Brentford striker Ivan Toney in a transfer that could end up being around £50-55million, Alan Hutton has said.

Football Transfers reported (18 June) that Spurs have already verbally agreed personal terms with the England striker, who only has one year left to run on his contract with the Bees.

The report added that there is still some work to be done on valuation with Spurs seeing a £40m bid rejected and Brentford holding out for £65m, with a fee somewhere in the middle thought to be enough to get the deal done.

Former Spurs defender Hutton, speaking to Tottenham News, thinks that would be a fair figure for a player who can make an improvement to Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.

“I think that’s a good number, I understand Tottenham, I know how they work, they go in low, Brentford go high and you meet somewhere in the middle, that’s what happens in every move in football,” he said.

“If they can get around the £50-55million mark, I mean he’s 28, I know he had a slow end to the season when he came back from his ban – I think it was 17 games he only scored three or four goals – but we know what he’s capable of that was through what happened before and he’ll learn from that.

“If they can get in the building, look there could even be some add-ons if he goes and scores ‘X’ amount of goals in the Champions League or for England or whatever you can kind of bulk up the fee.

“But I think that’s a good number, he’ll make the difference for them if scores 20-plus goals a season, which with the supply he’s going to get I think he will, he could be the difference maker.”

Will Tottenham sign Brentford ace Ivan Toney?

It’s fair to say that Tottenham still lack a traditional centre-forward since Harry Kane was sold to Bayern Munich last summer.

Captain Son Heung-min and Richarlison rotated going up top at various points of the campaign but neither are in the mould of Kane.

Toney would certainly fit the billing as a “proper” striker, the only thing is there is going to be a lot competition for his signature.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

A move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be on the cards for Ivan Toney.

But you can expect Spurs to be among the suitors and if Levy, who for all his faults is a savvy negotiator, can striker a good deal then you have to think this one has a good chance of getting done.

What’s more is, you would think Toney would welcome the chance of a move to a club like Spurs at this stage of his career.

In other Tottenham news, Real Madrid want to make a move for one Spurs ace but it will cost big money.
