Brentford head coach Thomas Frank revealed that he is feeling “emotional” about Rico Henry’s return from injury.

The left-back has been sidelined with a knee problem since September but is now back in full training at Jersey Road.

“Rico is progressing very well and hopefully he’ll be ready to join the squad soon,” said Frank.

“He’s trained every session here with the full squad with no restrictions.

“He’s so electric, so he catches the eye quite easily. I’m excited about it.

“I’ve been here close to eight years, and he is the only player who has been here the whole time, so it’s quite emotional to see him coming back. I’m very pleased.”

Sunday’s game against Liverpool will come too soon for Henry, while Josh Dasilva (knee), Aaron Hickey (hamstring) and Igor Thiago (meniscus) are also sidelined.

Fábio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg could be in line for a quick reunion with their former team-mates at Anfield, with both players having swapped Merseyside for west London this month.

Frank confirmed that Carvalho is “definitely in the squad” and “it is possible” that van den Berg will be involved.

On striker Ivan Toney, who missed last Sunday’s victory over Crystal Palace, Frank said: “Ivan has trained for the whole week with a good attitude in every aspect, so he could be involved, and he could not be involved.

“He could be here after 30 August, and he could not be here. Basically, everything is up in the air.

“If he is here, I am very happy. If he is not here, I am happy on his behalf.”
