Ivan Toney names £65m player linked with EPL club as one of his toughest opponents

England striker Ivan Toney has been discussing one defender who has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham to strengthen their defence, but the Blues may not stop there.

It has been claimed that Chelsea have made Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez their top target for the left-back position.

The club could also go back in for another central defender.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is reportedly one player who is on Chelsea’s radar.

Ivan Toney hails ‘strong’ defender Chelsea could sign this summer

Playing in the Premier League, Toney has come up against some tough defenders.

That includes Guehi, whom he named as his toughest opponent in the current England squad.

When asked to name the Three Lions player who has given him his hardest challenge, Toney told talkSPORT: “Marc Guehi. He’s so strong for a small guy! I think he’s up there with probably one of the strongest, so he’d be up there, tough opponent.

“Sometimes I just drift to the other side where the other centre-back is when he’s playing.”

Do Chelsea need Marc Guehi?

Chelsea have just signed Adarabioyo from Fulham.

That means Enzo Maresca now has the 26-year-old, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana for the centre-half positions as things stand. That is a lot of options.

According to The Telegraph, Palace are also unwilling to sell Guehi for less than £65m this summer.

Ultimately, it is going to take a lot of hassle for Chelsea to sign a player who they can probably survive without next season.

The above is not say that Guehi is a bad player. Toney’s words show that he is anything but. However, it is hard to argue that he should be a priority for the Blues right now.

Unless they lose another important central defender following
