Yasin Ayari is expected to be an important part of the Brighton squad this season, having spent a loan stint away from the club last season.
He’s played some minutes in all three games for Brighton, and managed to get a start against Arsenal.
In the meantime, he has also become a part of the Sweden squad and he recently played for the side against Estonia, featuring in defensive midfield. He started the game and it was his fourth appearance for the side.
Ayari spoke to Fotboll Skanalen after the win over Estonia and made clear his desire to improve.
The Brighton player said: “I know I can do better. But I’m new to the squad and have to get to know all the players in the team to get a connection. But I learn every day.”
He was asked what satisfied him the most about the win, and replied: “That I have been allowed to play these two matches and have been trusted to start. Just to be here and represent Sweden is an honour.”
The 20-year-old can prove to be a huge asset for the Seagulls this season, if he does make a mark in midfield.
That is because Brighton have lost Billy Gilmour to Brighton and Mahmoud Dahoud also departed. To make matters worse, new signing Matt O’Riley also picked up an injury that will keep him out for a chunk of the season.
There will be responsibility on the shoulders of 20-year-old Ayari this season and things are falling into place for him to play a major role.
