Chairman Tony Bloom insists Brighton are well within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability (PSR) rules following their £200m summer spend. 
Albion smashed their transfer record to bring in Georginio Rutter from Leeds United for £40m, while Yankuba Minteh signed from Newcastle United for around £35m. Mats Wieffer, Mat O’Riley, Brajan Gruda and Ferdi Kadıoğlu all arrived for around £25m each.
It’s an unprecedented window for Brighton and one that had some fans asking if they had stayed within the rules. Premier League rules state that the most a club can lose across a three-year period is £105m. Both Everton and Nottingham Forest surpassed that last season and received a points deduction.
Bloom, speaking on the Albion podcast, said: “We are in a very healthy place when it comes to PSR, no concerns. It is done over three years. The rules are likely to change in the future, season by season but I can assure everyone that we will always stay within any financial rules that are set by the Premier League.”
Brighton are often praised as one of the best run clubs in the top flight. They have a track record of buying talented young players, developing them and selling on for profit. In recent times Ben White, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Leo Trossard, Yves Bissouma and Rob Sanchez have all been sold for vast profits.
Bloom added: “One of the main things is long term planning. When people get involved in football clubs it is often the here and now and the first team. It’s the players and the transfers fees, getting promoted or getting into Europe but I take a different view, the long term view.
“You have to do it in small steps and over the years that gets you into a stronger position. The other key thing is to bring in the right coaches and players and that is easier said than done. But that helps everything at the football club.”
