Alphonso Davies rise to be compared the fastest player in the history of world football

Davies’ breathtaking pace has captivated fans all over the world, but how does he compare to the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang?

Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich caught the eye during his team’s 1-0 Bundesliga win over Borussia Dortmund late last month.

The Canadian teenager possesses exceptional talent and has excelledleft-backback for the German club in his first full Bundesliga season.

What has really taken fans’ breath away is the ex-Vancouver Whitecaps whizkid‘s unfathomable speed and athleticism.

For those who have watched Bayern regularly this season, it was not a surprise.

Since breaking into the first team last year, Davies has excelled, racing up and down the left flank with a confidence that belies his young years.

Often the 19-year-old is just a blur, difficult to keep up with even for spectators.

And he stacks up pretty impressively against some of the fastest stars in world football.

It took a quick burst of speed from Davies to come from nowhere to rob the striker of the ball and eliminate any danger.

He was measured at 35.3km/h (21.9mph), putting him among the fastest players in Bundesliga history, and not far behind the fastest anywhere.

According to a list compiled by the French newspaper Le Figaro in April, Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (35.5km/h), Athletic Club’s Inaki Williams (35.7km/h), and PSG star Kylian Mbappe (36km/h) are among the few players who have clocked faster times than Davies.

Davies had to come out of nowhere with a burst of speed to rob the striker of the ball and eliminate any danger.

He was recorded at 35.3km/h (21.9mph); a total that put him amongst the fastest players in Bundesliga history, and he’s not far off the fastest anywhere.

Le Figaro’s list suggests Davies’ closest competitors in the Bundesliga are Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi (35.27km/h), and Schalke speed merchant Rabbi Matondo (35.97km/h).

All of this means Davies isn’t the fastest player in the world, but he’s in the mix, rubbing shoulders with some of the game’s biggest names and brightest prospects at frightening speeds, particularly his full-back rivals.

Already, there is a growing demand for Davies, though he still has some work to do to match those few who can claim to have that half-yard advantage.
