Newcastle United set to submit €100m bid to sign world’s fastest defender

Newcastle United is reportedly interested in signing Alphonso Davies, a 22-year-old Bayern Munich full-back, this summer.

Newcastle United is interested in bringing Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies to St. James’ Park, according to Ben Jacobs in his exclusive column for Caught Offside. Dan Ashworth, the Magpies’ sporting director, is a big fan of the Canadian international and is planning a summer move to sign him.

“I also think Newcastle would prefer, as a priority, a left-back,” Ben Jacobs said. Eddie Howe prefers a young, quick, and dynamic player in that position. At times, the modern full-back can be mistaken for a winger. That’s why a player like Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has piqued the interest of sporting director Dan Ashworth.”

Alphonso Davies has put in some outstanding performances for Bayern Munich in recent years. And Newcastle United’s sporting director is prepared to go all out to sign the 22-year-old.

Davies joined the German giants in the winter of 2019 from the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer. Since joining Bayern Munich, the full-back has gone from strength to strength. He has played in over 140 Bundesliga games and has been directly involved in 30 goals. With Bayern, he also won the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

In the current season, he has made 26 appearances and contributed eight goals. The 22-year-old has had another outstanding season. His deal with the club expires in the summer of 2025. However, Davies’ departure is unlikely, though anything is possible given Newcastle United‘s financial backing.

Eddie Howe will use the summer transfer window to bolster his squad as they aim to compete for the Premier League next season. They currently sit fourth in the Premier League with 41 points from 22 games. And, if they manage to finish in a UCL spot, they will have a much better position while approaching the big names across Europe.

Howe, according to Jacobs, would like to have a young, fast, and dynamic left-back. And Davies is the ideal person for his plans. If they are successful in obtaining his signature, he will immediately slot in at left-back and will undoubtedly strengthen their squad. However, Newcastle are expected to face stiff competition from other clubs, including Real Madrid.

Newcastle United appear to be unlikely to sign the 22-year-old from Bayern Munich. Alphonso Davies is content with his situation at Bayern Munich and is unlikely to leave. Things could change if the Magpies qualify for the Champions League. But one thing is certain: they will have to break the bank in order to get him at St. James’ Park.
