Real Madrid plotting fast to sign Man City loanee as club finally reveals €70 million transfer fee

According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Real Madrid is interested in Joao Cancelo. In the summer transfer window, the reigning La Liga champions hope to bolster their right-back options. And the Portuguese international, who Manchester City values at €70 million, has emerged as a target.

Joao Cancelo has had a meteoric rise to fame over the last half-decade. During this time, he has represented three European powerhouses: Juventus, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich. And his stock soared during his time with the reigning Premier League champions.

Cancelo’s status at Manchester City had declined following the World Cup, and he joined Bayern Munich on loan in January. And the Portuguese international has had a good season so far, contributing one goal and four assists in eight appearances. However, Bayern Munich will not pay €70 million to sign the 28-year-old, raising the ire of Real Madrid.

During the January transfer window, Real Madrid had the opportunity to sign Cancelo. Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s desire to have the player in his squad, they passed up the opportunity. However, the Manchester City loanee has emerged as a possible summer transfer target.

Real Madrid will almost certainly spend a lot of money to bolster their squad during the summer transfer window. Florentino Perez is willing to loosen the purse strings in the face of the prospect of finishing the 2022/23 season without a trophy. In light of Dani Carvajal’s inconsistencies, the right-back position may become a priority to strengthen.

Furthermore, Lucas Vazquez has been hot and cold, and Alvaro Odriozola is not in Ancelotti’s plans. As a result, Real Madrid will need to find a long-term replacement for Carvajal. Cancelo is thus a viable target for Los Blancos as the summer transfer window approaches.

While Bayern Munich may not be willing to pay €70 million for the Portuguese international, Real Madrid is. However, the Merengues may face stiff competition in the race to sign him, with Barcelona also interested. And it will be interesting to see what the player’s future holds.
