Newcastle United outsmart Chelsea to submit £44million bid to sign Barcelona forward

Newcastle and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Ousmane Dembele this summer.

According to CalcioMercato, Dembele’s Barcelona contract has a £44 million release clause that expires in 2024.

This has tipped off Newcastle and Chelsea, who could both make a move for the Frenchman in the coming window.

Chelsea were linked with the 25-year-old in the summer but was dealt a blow when he signed a two-year contract extension in Catalonia, forcing them to move on to other targets.

Chelsea already have a plethora of wide players, having signed Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke to go along with Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech, so a move to Stamford Bridge for Dembele may not make as much sense as it did last summer.

Newcastle, on the other hand, is on the rise under new ownership, and Dembele could be the X-factor signing they need to fully kick-start their English football rise. Nobody expected the Toon to sign both Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak, so a move for Dembele is not out of the question.
