Darwin Hamm thinks Spencer Dinwiddie is still trying to adjust to the Lakers
Since signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, Spencer Dinwiddie has been trying to find his way in this new situation. The Los Angeles native didn’t have a particularly strong shooting season, but he has earned a reputation as a reliable 3-point shooter and ball-handler, which the Lakers need.
Gabe Vincent’s injury increased the need for a backup manager, so Dinwiddie was hired to fill the void after being acquired by the Toronto Raptors. Dinwiddie, who found success playing alongside Luka Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks, can play alongside stars, but he can also score on his own terms.
After two strong performances early in his Lakers career, growing pains have become evident as the guard tries to adapt to the Lakers’ system. In Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Suns, Dinwiddie struggled for 23 minutes, scoring just three points on 1-of-5 shooting. Head coach Darwin Hamm believes he understands and wants him to play his game during this adjustment period.

The controversial aspect of Sunday’s loss was that while Max Christie showed he was ready to play now, he didn’t play well enough. The 21-year-old played well in just five minutes, but Ham admitted it was difficult to find a balance between himself and Dinwiddie.
